Chemistry 200A: Biophysical methods

Fall, 2005

Prof. William Scott , course instructor

Chemistry 200A is the first of a three-part sequence of Chemistry 200A, 200B and 200C.  Chemistry 200A focuses on the methodologies of biophysical chemistry.  Chemistry 200B focuses on protein structure and function, and is offered in the Winter Quarter.  It will be taught by Prof. Tony Fink. Chemistry 200C focuses on nucleic acids structure and function, and their complexes with proteins.  It will be taught by Prof. William Scott.  Chemistry 200B and 200C will assume knowledge of the course material in 200A.  It is also necessary for Chemistry 200A to have an undergraduate-level background in standard biochemistry, and a knowledge of physical chemistry, including an elementary understanding of molecular quantum mechanics, is assumed as a basis for discussing spectroscopic techniques.
