Hello Chem 1B students!! The first class of Chemistry 1B, Spring 2008, will meet 31st March at 11:00 in Classroom Lecture 2. SEE YOU THERE!!

Topic: Handouts for Lecture Notes
On the Chemistry 1B WWW HANDOUTS page you will find handouts containing the PowerPoint illustrations for each lecture. You may find it very useful to print these out before each lecture and thus make taking lecture notes a more joyful experience!!

Topic: Prerequisites
Students receiving a grade of NP, D, or F in Chemistry 1A are not eligible to enroll in Chemistry 1B and have (will be) dropped from the class roll.

Topic: Discussion Sections
Discussion sections are required for Chemistry 1B, Sp2008. Sections will begin on Wednesday, 2nd April with the 12:30PM section o1I (but NOT 01H at 8:30).

Topic: DRC Accommodations
Anyone needing DRC accommodations for the midterms and final must bring the appropriate DRC forms to Professor Switkes, before Wednesday 9th April

Topic: EXAM Dates
The midterm and final dates are 18th April, 16th May, and 12th June. All exams are required. Illness confirmed by the Health Center and certain University sponsored events (e.g. research meetings) are the only situations where alternative arrangements are possible.

Topic: HW TURN-IN
The first HOMEWORK set will be due next Wednesday, 9th April, IN CLASS . Handwritten solutions are fine but homework will be graded only if the work is legible.
You must put your name and section number (e.g. 01B, 01C ...) on the first page of the assignment. Katy's WEDNESDAY SECTIONS ONLY (01I,01J,01L,01M):
you may turn in your homework to Katy in section or put in box in chemistry mailroom (PSB 2nd floor)
but NO LATER THAN 9AM THURSDAY after HW due.
Homework will be graded and returned in section.

Topic: MSI to begin
The Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI) tutorials will begin on Monday, 7th April. Camila will be enriching your chemical knowledge at the sessions listed.

Topic: Midterm #1
Midterm #1, 18 April, will the material related to Chapters 9 and 12 (pp. 510-545) in the text and the homework assignments #1-#2. The exam will be done 'in place' on the exam sheets provided (ie no bluebooks or scantrons needed). You should bring a calculator.

An exam that represents the type of questions that will appear on our 18th April midterm is on HARDCOPY RESERVE IN THE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING LIBRARY, NOT ERes. The TAs and MSI sections can help you answer any questions that you might have regarding the solutions to the exam.
