BMB Major Handbook

Welcome. The staff and faculty of UCSC's Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program welcome your interest and willingness to consider majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. The interdisciplinary major in biochemistry and molecular biology leads to the bachelor of science degree. The program emphasizes rigorous study of biological systems within quantitative and scientific frameworks. After completing a core curriculum, students have considerable flexibility to pursue specialized areas of interest.

This handbook provides a useful guide to our undergraduate program. Please make an appointment with the Undergraduate Advisor to plan the courses required for the biochemistry major. Please email Teri Pennington at tapennin@ucsc.edu

We are proud of our students and proud of the educational experience we offer, and we have the privilege of seeing students grow and develop enormously during just the few years they are here. We look forward to getting to know you and to teaching you in the biochemistry, biology, and chemistry courses you will be taking.

Prof. Robert Ludwig, Chair
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program
